Timaru District Council
$1,029,000 on July 2021.
$301,000 2022
The Council is the project’s largest contributor and is helping with drainage issues, funding applications, accounting, liability, and procurement.
The council had originally indicated a $500,000 investment, but the CPlay playground committee successfully petitioned at the long-term plan hearings for a more significant contribution. The boost meant the playground could be installed and operational by July next year, although the committee’s chairman, Owen Jackson, said that was flexible. “Depending on the generosity of the community, it could be fast-tracked. Once the money is signed, sealed and delivered, it’s only a six-month timeframe.”
Timaru District Council is thrilled for the CPlay playground to become a reality at Caroline Bay. Once completed, the playground will provide continuous entertainment, exercise and fun for families andchildren of all ages and abilities. We believe that we will see an increase in tourism in the Timaru District because of the playground;playgrounds of this stature are very well-received and a place that people want to visit and enjoy.Having a purpose-built playground to be functional for children of all ages and disabilities maximisesthe use of the playground as it is fit-for-purpose for everyone. Children and families will come toplay, exercise and socialise, which has a considerable impact on the overall health and wellbeing ofour community. Timaru District Council stands behind this initiative with full support. We believe that CPlay will notonly be a playground, but a safe environment for children and families to feel welcomed andincluded. It has inclusivity as its main initiative, which we love. We see this project as an example ofour community coming together to provide better health and social outcomes for the.district.We are supportive of the CPlay initiative, and wish the group all the very best with their fundraising efforts. “The Community Trust is excited to be able to grant to see the project completed. It meets our vision of a “vibrant” community bringing children and parents together to explore and have fun in a wonderful playground. It will be a huge asset to the South Canterbury community and attract visitors who can engage in the playground but also learn something of the history of this area.”
