Play is one of the most important things that we can do. Now that the equipment needs replacing, it’s time to break from traditional playgrounds and offer more stimulating and inclusive play for all ages and abilities. Kids want a fun, challenging playground where they can follow their imagination, play as their creativity takes them and not leave anyone out. The new playground can help our health, foster development, movement and promote social skills, resilience and tolerance. And the new playground can also help us connect to our special stories, heritage and history.

It's going to be fun, inclusive, meaningful and challenging - It's going to be EPIC!

  • More challenging and open ended and imaginative play equipment to stimulate physical and mental activity.
  • Safe, strong and resistant to damage play equipment.
  • More sensory and accessible equipment and landscaping to suit a range of abilities, body sizes and ages.
  • Better drainage, seating, tables, BBQs and shade all year round.
  • A space to connect to our Māori and European history and heritage, themed to Caroline Bay environment and history
  • And learn through moving, communicating, noticing, interacting, wondering and experimenting.
  • Economic benefits could come as a flow on effect from a quality inclusive destination playground.
  • Over 40 play pieces including bespoke mahika kai areas, shipwreck, lighthouse, floor is lava challenge, slides, swings and epic 50m double flying fox!

We have genuinely taken everyone’s feedback on board to define our brief and considered all generations, the environment, and community. This complex project is being managed by a joint steering group with CPlay volunteers and TDC to ensure every aspect of the finance, planning and build are well considered and organized. Aoraki Foundation are supporting us with managing our donations so you can claim tax back on your donation. Many volunteers are coming together to offer their expertise. This work in kind also ensures that less is spent on overheads, and frees up funds for the playground. The playground design has been in collaboration with CPlay, Rushton Architects and the Playground Centre, to ensure that it's fun, practical, safe and lasts for a long time.
